Can Column Magic trigger when a formula result changes?

monday.com does not fire automations when a Formula column’s calculated result changes. Formula values are computed in the UI; they are not a column-change event apps (including Column Magic) can subscribe to.

That means you cannot reliably use recipes like:

  • When formula changes → copy / set status / run a Column Magic action
  • When formula equals X → …

What works instead

  1. Trigger on the input columns that feed the formula (Status, Numbers, Dates, etc.). When those change, monday recalculates the formula and your automation can run on the real change event.
  2. If you need the formula’s value available for downstream automations, copy or set a native column from those same inputs (for example with Copy Columns), then trigger later steps off that destination column — not the Formula column.

Why this matters

Customers often expect “when the formula updates, do X.” That isn’t available from monday’s automation platform today, so Column Magic can’t add it either.
